Chapter 19: Romantic Walk
After Mark, Renee, and Grace leave. Sue and Jack walk out of the restaurant holding hands.
They decide to drive to Georgetown and look out at the water. It is such a beautiful night.
Jack: Did you have fun at dinner? (megawatt
smile)
Sue: Yes. It was an enjoyable evening. And it’s always good when we all
gang up on Myles. (laughs)
Jack: Yeah. I’m glad everything worked out for everyone. Now I get to
focus all my attention on you. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: Should I be worried about your intentions? (cheerful smile and
teases Jack)
Jack: I don’t know. What would you say if I told you I wanted to take
you on a romantic getaway for one weekend? (megawatt smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: I say when, where, and what clothes I need to bring on our getaway? (cheerful
smile)
Jack: I haven’t got all the details figured out yet. I’ll let you
know when the time comes. I like surprising you. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I like you surprising me so long as I have a little advanced notice. (smile
and laughs)
Jack: You mean like when you showed up on my doorstep with breakfast and I
was half-dressed? (megawatt smile, teases Sue, and raise eyebrows)
Sue: That was bad timing on my part. Just be thankful that I didn’t tell
Lucy and Tara. (dazzling smile and teases Jack)
Jack: That is our little secret. Promise me you won’t say a word to anyone.
(megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: Okay. I promise. I really like Renee and Grace. (smile)
Jack: Yeah, Grace is adorable little girl. And Renee is a wonderful mother.
(megawatt smile)
Sue: Jack, this may be a silly question but were you ever in love with Renee?
I mean back when you were in law school. (curious smile)
Jack: To be honest, I thought I was in love with Renee back then. Then we both
went our separate ways and drifted far apart. I will always care about Renee. But my heart belongs to you. And I promise that
it always will. I love you so much, Sue. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I love you more, Jack. I hope Renee finds love and happiness because she
deserves it after everything she has gone through. (dazzling smile)
Jack: Not possible. I love you more
for the both of us. And speaking of Renee, I have a feeling she will be very happy. So what do you want to do now? (megawatt
smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I don’t know. Maybe you
should try to read my mind. (laughs and teases Jack)
Jack: I’m not a mind reader.
But I’ll give it my best shot. Is this what you had in mind? (megawatt smile, laughs, and his signature wink)
Jack pulls Sue into his arms and
kisses her mouth. Her eyes fluttered closed for a minute as Jack deepens their kiss. After that, he kisses the side of her
neck. Sue reaches up to touch his face and kisses him again.
They hold each other close until
Jack pulls back slightly. He rests his forehead against hers. Jack knows he has to take Sue home. So they kiss once more,
his arm around her waist, and drives Sue back to her apartment.
Jack walks Sue to her door and kisses
her goodnight. He tells her “Sweet dreams, Sue. I’ll see you at the bullpen tomorrow”. She tells him “Goodnight,
Jack. Thanks for a lovely evening. See you tomorrow”. Sue opens the door and walks inside. Jack walks back to his car
and drives to his house.
