Epilogue: Baby Preparations
Back at Hudson’s home
Her hands fell to rest on top of her rounded stomach. Jack gave her his megawatt smile,
the smile that still sent her heart into overdrive just like on their wedding day. And she knew that smile always would. Jack
looped his arms around her disappearing waist and dropped a lingering kiss on her lips before pulling back. His forehead rested
against hers as they held each other quietly. After all peace would be a cherished commodity once the twins arrived.
Jack stepped back and touched his hands to either side of her stomach as if to cradle
both babies nestled inside. They sat on the couch and stared at the ultrasound black-and-white photo of their twins. It was
their first picture of two tiny human beings created out of their unique love. Sue took out baby’s Forever Pooh memory
book and placed the ultrasound photo inside. Then Sue twirled his tie between her fingers, drawing Jack near her. Sue kissed
his cheek and then his mouth. Sue sighed and rested her head against his rock-solid shoulder.
Sue: I can’t believe we’re going to have twins. I can’t think of two names or add two and two together
at the moment. How am I going to take care of twins? (concern smile)
Jack: We still have four months to come up with baby names. And I’m going to be with you every step of the
way. We make a great team. (megawatt smile)
Sue: I know. But how do you really feel about two babies at once? (dazed smile)
Jack: I couldn’t possibly be happier about having twins. Twins is definitely amazing news but they also bring
double the pleasure to our life. More importantly, no two babies will have more devoted parents at their side than us. (megawatt
smile and his signature wink)
Sue: You’re
right as usual. We better get the nursery ready for our twins. And buy more stuff, two of each: cribs, high-chairs, car seats,
baby toys, and everything else. That is going to cost a lot of money. (dazed smile)
Jack: I know. But
it’s all worth it. We’re going to make mistakes for sure but we’re also going to shower them with so much
love, there’s no doubt about that. We’re going to be great parents. Together, we can get through anything. (megawatt
smile and his signature wink)
The
weeks flew by in a blur. Sue is eating a balanced diet for two actually three people now. She has eaten more green vegetables
than she can count. Jack is extremely thoughtful husband. Jack pamper Sue and wait on her hand and foot, every pregnant mom-to-be
should be so lucky. He bought plentiful baby supplies two of each item located all around the house, nursery and playroom.
Yesterday, Jack went to the baby boutique store and bought another Forever Pooh memory book. Jack couldn’t
resist buying baby booties, plush teddy bears, and baby sleeper set. In addition to, he also bought double stroller, baby
crib and crib beddings, baby bottles and food warmer, huge diaper bags, Winnie The Pooh throw blankets, lots of baby clothes,
baby front carriers, baby activity gyms, baby rattle, infant adjustable swing set, baby pacifiers, baby bibs, baby moses
basket, baby bath-seats, infant car seats, two high-chairs,
port-a-crib, bassinets, changing tables, baby rocking chair, bedtime books, storybooks, a collection of Disney movies, Care
Bear talking friends plush toys, two white christening gowns, musical mobiles, Ben and Jerry watches, and baby monitors for
every room in the house.
His parents and Sue’s
parents also sent baby presents to their house. Meg, Matt, and Abby sent baby presents as well. Jack even bought things their
twins wouldn’t need for a long time such as a scooter, computer games, X-Box play station, Easy Back Oven, train set,
remote car, fire truck, bikes, hockey stick, baseball glove, football, tennis racquet, soccer ball, basketball, two pairs
of figure skates, and golf club set.
Sue: What did you do, buy out Toys R Us and all the baby boutiques in the area? (rolling her eyes at him, dazed smile
and teases Jack)
Jack: I went shopping and saw some things I figured you and our twins would need. So I bought everything I could
find. (megawatt smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: I see. Well, sorry to disappoint you honey. But we’re returning most of these things because the twins
aren’t going to be able use every single item you bought at least not before they start kindergarten. We only keep the
things that I think are necessary for our twins and for me. (radiant smile, rolling eyes at Jack, and laughs)
Jack: Fine. Don’t blame me if the twins ask you where’s the X-Box, mommy. (megawatt smile, laughs, and
teases Sue)
Sue: Ha-Ha. That won’t happen for a long time. Now I know you bought it for yourself and not for our twins.
I suppose you bought these two Ben and Jerry watches for the twins also. They won’t be able to tell time when they come
into the world you know. (radiant smile and laughs)
