Epilogue: One Boy, One Girl
Jack sat next to her bed and watched his extraordinary wife sleep. He peered down at the two
small faces and both infants stopped crying. They looked up at him, eyes as wide as spring flowers basking in the sunlight.
Or looking at a colorful rainbow after a big rainstorm and the sun comes out.
Jack felt as if his twins could see right into his
heart and soul. Which seems only fair since they already stolen his heart. This experience surpasses anything else in his
entire life. He never had a moment quite like this before, truly two glorious gifts from God.
In the early morning hours, Jack was sitting next to her hospital
bed gazing at their babies in their bassinets. He leaned closer and caressed his infant son’s and then his daughter’s
baby-soft cheek.
He lifted his son from his warmer, the baby swaddled
in blue, a full head of hair covered with a tiny cap. Jack passed their infant son to his wife. Sue reached out, already happy
tears falling down her face and tucked their son into her arms. She opened the blanket to count fingers and toes just to be
sure. She tightened her arms around their son. Jack stared at his wife and mouthed
the words; “I love you” and kissed her forehead. Then, Jack captured Sue’s mouth with a tender at the same
time powerful kiss.
It was only when
their son squealed between them that they pulled apart laughing. Jack lifted his daughter from her warmer, the baby swaddled
in pink, and nestled her close to his chest. He kissed his daughter’s full head of hair, not wanting her to feel left
out. Jack sat on the edge of the bed, put one arm around Sue and admired his
son and his daughter. They were tiny and perfect little people and he loved cradling them in his arms.
They sat wrapped
in each other’s arms, feeling the contentment of the moment that both will forever treasure. Sue looked cheerful and
so very beautiful. She simply took his breath away just like on their wedding day. Like Dimitrius said, it was the greatest
experience of his life, second only to the day he married Sue, the love of his life.
Jack: Here’s your mama, little guy. She’s pretty incredible. I’m your
dad. And this is your sister. Wow! I have twins. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: Oh, Jack. He’s so beautiful. He has your eyes, your mouth, and your hair. He’s
going to be heartbreaker someday just like his daddy. I can feel it in my bones. (glowing smile and teases Jack)
Jack: Are you making fun of my hair? (laughs) This little girl has your smile, your chin,
and your cute nose. She’s so beautiful. I’m never letting her out of sight. She’s already stolen my heart
just like her mommy did. She’s going to crush a many boys’ dreams. I am going to love every minute of that fact.
(laughs) Our daughter won’t be allowed to date until she’s at least 30. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: Sounds reasonable to me. Luckily, we don’t have to worry about that for another
16 years, a very long time from now. (glowing smile)
Jack: Thank goodness. So have you picked out their names yet? Last count, you were still
debating what to name them. (megawatt smile, teases Sue, and his signature wink)
Sue:
Joshua Phillip Hudson. Hailey Hope Hudson. These
two names fit our kids perfectly. What do you think? (glowing smile)
Jack: I like them both. Our first and second collaboration, we are off
to a wonderful start. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I couldn’t agree with you more. Sorry, I yelled at you
honey. You were awesome in the delivery room. I am extremely content mother right now. (radiant smile)
Jack: Glad to hear that. By the way, four grandparents are outside
waiting to come in and say hello to our twins. Are you ready for them or should I tell them to go away? (megawatt smile and
his signature wink)
Sue: Sure. Send in the crowd. If it gets too much, my husband will
tell them to leave. (glowing smile and teases Jack)
Jack: You bet. The two most beautiful babies in the world and they
are mine. Our kids, what a miracle, just like their mother. You have never looked more beautiful to me than at this very moment,
Sue. Thank you for bringing them into the world. I love you. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I love you too. I couldn’t have done this without you.
You know it feels like I’d just fallen head over heels in love with you all over again. (glowing smile)
To commemorate this significant
occasion, Jack bought Sue a gold heart pendant necklace with alternating Austrian Swarovsky Crystals representing their twins’
birthstones in the center engraved with their twins’ names on heart-shaped charms on the front and on the back is their
twins’ birth date.
This heart pendant is surrounded by his and her birthstones rings. He bought two
gold baby shoe charm bracelets with their birthstones and engraved on the sole of each shoe are the twins’ names and
birth date.
Jack bought two hand-painted birth record keepsake plates. One blue and one pink, both plates displays their twins’
names, birth date, time of birth, and weight. A pair of hand-painted baby feet
is in the center of the plate with a verse that reads: “O tender feet, you precious things, sent from the gates of heaven’s wings. Treasure these first tiny steps for
precious feet grow up too fast and fly away.”
Jack: My life just keeps getting better and better. And I hope it never
stops. That reminds me, I have one more surprise for you. Here’s your present, mommy. A little something I selected
for our son and daughter. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: Oh Jack. It’s beautiful. I love it! I’d say there are plenty
of surprises in store for us. And I am looking forward to every single moment with you and our twins. (glowing smile and gives
Jack a kiss on the cheek)
