Chapter 28: Valentine's Wishes
Jack: Wow! I love all my presents. You know we make a terrific team. My darling, Sue when do you want to get
married? (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I couldn’t agree more. I’m glad
you’re my partner. When do you want to get married? (lighthearted smile)
Jack: I asked you first. But I’ll make a
suggestion. My mom would love to have a June wedding. What do you think? (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I’m not sure. Do you mean this June?
(curious smile)
Jack: Yeah. Why not? You don’t want to get
married in June? (puzzled expression on his handsome face)
Sue: Well, I would love to have a June wedding.
Except it is impossible to plan a wedding, book the church, reception area, etc. in four short months. I’m going to
need at least one year to come up with our wedding plans. (lighthearted smile)
Jack: You want me to wait at least a whole year
before we actually walk down the aisle? But I thought you wanted to marry me as soon as possible. (inquisitive smile and raise
eyebrows)
Sue: Jack, Honey, I love you. Being a June bride has always been a
dream of mine. Unfortunately, there’s no way, we can put together a wedding in four months. Everything is booked solid,
couples have to book at least one year in advanced. (lighthearted smile)
Jack: What if I told you I can plan the wedding
in four months? (megawatt smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: How are you going to do that? Besides what
do you even know about planning a wedding? (curious smile and teases Jack)
Jack: Not much. But how hard can planning our wedding
day be. After all, I fight crime everyday. (megawatt smile, laughs, and gives her his signature wink)
Sue: Please tell me you didn’t compare planning
our wedding day to catching the bad guys? Last night, you told me to plan my “dream wedding”. So unless you have
Houdini somewhere in your pocket and he can somehow make the wedding of my dreams come to life without any assistance from
me. I think we better wait until next June. Please don’t be mad at me. (concern smile and laughs)
Jack: Alright. You keep insisting that we can’t
get marry in four months. I still say you’re wrong about that. But I’m having second thoughts about planning our
wedding so whatever you decide you want to do is fine with me. Of course, there is one condition. (megawatt smile and laughs)
Sue: What condition might that be? (curious smile)
Jack: You should move in with me. I mean, there’s
no point for you to stay at your place with Lucy and spend the other half of the time here with me. (megawatt smile and his
signature wink)
Sue: How about we compromise? I’ll move most
of my things over here. But I still need to stay with Lucy at least until she finds another roommate. To be honest, I wouldn’t
feel right about moving in here until after we’re officially married. Legend has it; you are not allowed to see me in
my wedding gown before our wedding day. And, I don’t want to jinx our future together. So staying with Lucy until we
are married is the only option. (lighthearted smile)
Jack: This is not going well for me. All I can
do is hope that the year goes by really fast. (lighthearted smile)
Sue: Thank you for understanding. I promise to
make this all up to you, all in good time. (lighthearted smile)
Jack: I’m going to hold you to that promise,
Sue. And I will collect with a great deal of interest. (megawatt smile, teases Sue, and his signature wink)
Sue:
Never had any doubt, Jack. Just so we are on the same page. I will be counting the days, hours, and minutes until I finally
get to say two words; “I do” in front of all our family and friends. (dazzling smile)
Jack:
Glad to hear that. I was a little worried when you didn’t jump at the chance to marry me this coming June. But I know
this will all be worth it, the moment when you walk down the aisle and we say “I do” to each other. Okay. Why
are you frowning? You are supposed to be deliriously happy. (megawatt smile and raise eyebrows)
