Chapter 29:
Two Hearts Become One
Jack & Sue’s Wedding Day : June 17th, 2006
Jack
and Sue wanted a small intimate wedding, but their parents had other ideas. It was a perfect, sunny, blue clear sky summer
June day. Baskets of flower arrangements lined the steps to the St. Veronica Church on either side. Inside St.
Veronica Church, a white lace floral
aisle runner and more flowers adorn the walkway leading up to the altar. When Sue walked into her bridal room, on the table were two dozen long stem red roses along with a note and a basket
full of Kleenex tissue boxes.
The note says; Hello darling. Today is the happiest day of my life.
Our wedding day is upon us. With you every dream has come true. Every promise will be fulfilled from now on. For you own my
heart exclusively. My lovely angel, to wake up with you each morning and fall asleep with you every night will be my good
fortune. Miracles really do happen. I know because I am lucky to have found my partner for life. You will always be the one
for me, for all time. P.S. The tissues are for happy tears only for today, Sue. Your beloved, Jack Hudson.
Sue fell in love with the elegant gown
the instant she seen it. Sue made a slow turn in front of the dressing room mirror,
still not quite believing that her wedding day was finally here after such a long wait that had seemed to last an eternity.
With one last turn around, she looked at her mom, who was smiling with tears in her eyes. Sue puts on her makeup,
her pearl brooch, borrowed sapphire earrings, her emerald bracelet, white veil, blue garter, and slipped on her white three
inch satin heels. A soft-as-silk hairstyle complements her stunning wedding gown. Curls cascade around her shoulders allowing
a few tendrils to escape and frame her lovely face.
Sue’s
Mom: You look radiant. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any bride who glows with so much happiness as you do right
this minute. (smile)
Sue: You’re probably
right. That’s because Jack makes me very happy. (radiant smile)
Sue’s Mom: Before
I go into the church, I want to give you something old. This has been in our family for generations; it was passed on to me
when I married your father. A pearl brooch that belonged to my mom, her mom before that, and now it belongs to you. (smile)
Jack’s Mom: You
can’t have a wedding without the traditional something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. So
here’s my gift to you. This is something new. I made a wedding quilt for
you with some of Jack’s old baby clothes. I made one for Meg when she got married. And I made one for Abby if she ever
decides to settle down anytime soon. But that’s another story altogether. (smile)
Abby: Mom, let’s
not ruin Sue’s special day. I will settle down when I’m good and ready. Sue, you look beautiful. (smile)
Sue: So do you. I think
you’ll catch more than a few single men’s eyes at the reception. (radiant smile)
Lucy: Here is something
blue. I bought you two blue garters, one for you to keep as a memento and the other one Jack will toss to one of the single
men at the reception tonight. I wonder who will dare catch Sue’s garter. (smile)
Tara: And I
just happen to have something you can borrow. It’s a pair of sapphire hoop earrings, on loan until after you come back
from your honeymoon. By the way, where are the two of you going on your honeymoon? (smile)
Sue: Thank you so much,
everyone for all your generous gifts. I love you all. As for the honeymoon, Jack wouldn’t tell me. I tried to get it
out of him but he has not budged from No, you have to wait and see. (radiant smile)
Meanwhile in the groom’s changing room, Jack is ready
to head for the altar. Before he does, all the men share a moment with Jack before they go into the church and take their
places. Jack’s dad puts the rose boutonniere on Jack’s lapel and they hug each other.
Bobby and the other groomsmen also put on their rose boutonnieres. Sue’s
dad and three brothers come in to check on how the groom is doing. Sue’s three overprotective brothers give Jack some
last minute advice about their little sister. They joke about who should catch the garter and more male bonding laughter.
Bobby: God, but you look calm. Why aren’t you nervous? (smile and laughs)
Jack: Why should I be nervous? I’ve been waiting my whole life for this. Not to mention, I somehow survived
all of our wedding plans. (megawatt smile and laughs)
Bobby: You’re not human. I thought all grooms get cold feet and run to the border on their wedding day.
(laughs and teases Jack)
Jack: I know what this is about. You’re worried that Darcy will get ideas and bug you about proposing
to her. Am I right, Crash? (laughs and teases Bobby)
Bobby: Forget I said anything, Sparky. Let’s get this show
on the road. (smile and laughs)
Jack’s Dad: Sue is the perfect woman for you. I’m so glad I finally have a daughter-in-law.
And here’s hoping I’ll have more grandchildren to spoil in the near future. (smile)
Jack: Let me get married first Dad. I want a chance to have Sue all to myself before I can
even think about the sound of little feet running through our house. (megawatt smile and laughs)
Jack’s Dad: Okay. That sounds fair. Just don’t make your mother and I wait too
long. I’m not getting any younger you know. (smile and laughs)
Back in the Bridal Room
Lucy: I think that’s
it. You are the belle of the ball. I believe your prince charming is waiting for you. Jack is probably wearing a hole through
the carpet as we speak. (smile and laughs)
Sue: Then by all means
let’s not make him wait. Let’s get this show on the road. (smile)
