Chapter 28: The Proposal
Sue takes out
the second envelope and begins to read the poem entitled “My Forever Love”.
Love is like buried treasure, so rare and hard to find. Love resembles a bright flame that
lights up even on the darkest night. Now, I have a confession to make. The first
time I saw you I felt my heart fall on the ground at your feet. You stepped out of my dreams and leaped straight into my heart. You showed me what love means.
My life began the day I met you. Everything is new with sweet anticipation. The days are filled with
hope and wonder. And the nights are filled with love and laughter. You are my heart’s desire. You light a fire deep
down in my soul. You are the one who completes me in every way. You’ll always be mine and I will forever be yours.
I want to grow old with you. I want us to have children together. I want to fulfill all your
dreams. I want to be there for you in good as well as bad times too. Because when we are together, we are stronger than anything that life throws in our path.
I thank you for being who you are because it helps me to be a better man. With you, I have found my
way home right where I belong. When you wake up in the morning, when you fall asleep at night, I will be there to keep you
safe.
I believe that fate and God guided me to the greatest treasure in the universe that I will ever
come across in this lifetime. Simply put, from this moment on; you are my forever love!
Oh my darling Sue…I would be the happiest man on earth if you would please grant me one
wish for all time. Nothing would please me more than to have you as my dance partner for the rest of my life. When once there
were two hearts searching for love, now two lives will merge as one.
And as I look towards the future, I already
know I want your hand holding mine until the end of time. One heart that beats since time began only for you. I love you forever.
There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you…
At this exact moment, Jack gets ready to make his final move. Sue continues to read, she gets to
this line:
please open your present now and after you read the last sentence, look up at me.
Sue rips the tissue paper in half and stares at the stone. Sue is speechless and then
she reads the words on the heart-shape stepping stone. This was carved inside: You are my world,
my everything. I am so blessed to have you in my life. Jack & Sue. February 14, 2005. At the bottom are the sweetest words:
Will You Marry Me?
By this time, Jack gets up out of his chair and comes over to Sue. He gets down on one knee,
holding a black velvet ring box in his hand, and ready to ask the question. At the same time, Sue turns to look at him; she
could not believe her eyes. Sue covered her mouth, all at once she is happy and crying and in shock. At that time, Jack opens
the jewelry box, and then he gently takes Sue’s left hand in his.
Jack gazes deep into her eyes (pauses)…Signing & Speaking- Sue Thomas; “Will you do me the supreme honor
of becoming my wife? Will you marry me?”
Her
eyes filled with tears, as more teardrops fall down her face.
Jack thinking: Sue has never looked more beautiful than she does right this second. After Sue nods her head, Jack
slips the magnificent ring on her finger and kisses her hand. In the next moment, Sue throws her arms around his neck and
kisses him. Right now, their eyes locked on each other, as the rest of the world fades away. It’s a safe bet; neither
of them will ever forget this magical night. Here’s a recap of what actually happened.
