Chapter 9: Dark Secrets Revealed Next morning, at the bullpen Jack: Hi Candice. How are you doing? Candice: I’m doing okay. You said it was important that I come in today. Jack: Yeah. I wanted to tell you in person that we caught “Viper”. (megawatt smile) He is going
away for a very long time. But I also need you to pick him out of a line-up. We have to do this by the book. Don’t worry;
he won’t be able to see you through the one-way glass mirror. Diane: This is a good thing, Candice. All you have to do is take a look at the men on the other side of the
room. Look at the numbers that each man is holding and tell us which one calls himself “Viper”. (smile) Jack: Diane’s right. When you’re done you never have to see him again. The only other time you
see “Viper” will be in a court of law. You will have to testify against him when his case goes to trial. I know
you can do this. (encouraging smile for Candice) Diane: Sue and I will be in the room with you. You don’t have to be afraid. We are here for you. (smile) Candice is looking through the one-way glass mirror. Sue and Diane are standing behind her towards
the back of the room. Each man comes up to the center and Candice gets a good look at them. Then Candice sees “Viper”;
she says that’s him. He is holding number 5. Sue and Diane hug Candice. They tell her she did a good job. Now she can
finally put this behind her. Interrogation room, mid-afternoon Jack: I’m going to make you an offer you can’t refuse. (smile) Giuseppe smirk: This should be good. Jack: We want you to sign a written confession and turn over
state evidence. That means detailing all of the dirty laundry your father has managed to keep hidden. Maybe I can recommend
to the AUSA not to give you the death penalty. This offer expires in one hour. It’s your call. (smile) Giuseppe smirk: From what you just told me, you have no case against me or my father. Jack: That’s where you’re wrong. We know you’re the ringleader behind the underage prostitution
and child pornography ring. Bobby: And we know you hired Vincent Chambers and Tommy Cortez to kill Mr. Brinkman. Why did you kill an
innocent man? Giuseppe smirk: Because the old man kept telling everyone and petitioning the county to shut down my nightclub.
So I wanted to teach him a lesson. I even gave him $60,000 cold hard cash. All he had to do was sell his candy store. But
that old man was stubborn as a mule. He said no deal. I don’t like people saying no to me. I told Tommy and Vincent
to scare him. It’s not my fault he’s dead. Jack: You tried to bribe him and when that didn’t work you killed him. You’re going away for
life. Prostitution, sexual exploitation of children, and murder for hire are all federal crimes. And you will be punished
to the fullest extent of the law. The judge is going to take one look at you and throw away the key. (smile) Bobby: What can you tell us about Bernardo and Baldovino? Giuseppe smirk: Nothing, except that they work for my father. He likes to keep his hands clean. I don’t
keep tabs on them. Here’s an idea. You’re the FBI, you go find them. Jack: Oh, we’re going to find those bone-heads and your father. It’s only a matter of time. You
should know that when we find B & B and they talk. You’ll be out of luck. Have a nice life in prison. (smile) Giuseppe smirk: If I know those two, they are loyal to the Del Marco family. They would rather be buried
alive before they cooperate with the feds and turn against my father. One more thing, I talked to my lawyer. I know you don’t
have enough evidence to charge me with that old man’s murder. My lawyer will get me out of jail so fast your head will
spin. Back at the bullpen Myles: How did it go with Giuseppe Del Marco? Bobby: He wouldn’t take the deal. He’s stupid but also loyal to his father. In the meantime, Casey Martin has been working on a drug smuggling operation, and last night his team raided a heroin lab. They caught drug runners who have been shipping smack running up and down the east coast and along the Canadian border. Their raid also netted two men whom Jack and his team have been looking for. It seems Alfonso Del Marco has been financing illegal drug smuggling enterprise. Casey’s team intercepted 1000 kilogram quantities of heroin that was about to be distributed by the drug runners. Casey calls Jack to tell him the good news. Jack: Let’s go. Casey Martin picked up our two boys on drug charges. Myles and Dimitrius you talk to
Bernardo and make him a deal. Bobby and I will talk to Baldovino and make him the same deal. See who rats out Alfonso Del
Marco first. (smile) Interrogation Room mid-afternoon Jack: Listen up Baldovino because I’m only going to say this once. I have one deal to offer, if you
talk first you get the deal. But if your buddy talks first, he gets it. (smile) Bobby: You see we are a very fair organization. Our policy is first come, first serve. Jack: That’s right. So let’s cut to the chase. And you tell me about working for Alfonso Del
Marco. If your information leads to his capture, I’m willing to cut you
a deal of a lifetime. (smile) Bobby: You turn over state’s evidence against your boss, Alfonso Del Marco. In return, you get immunity
from prosecution. It’s the best deal you are going to get. (smile) Jack: Clock is ticking. This deal will expire in 30 minutes. So, are you ready to play ball? (smile) Baldovino: What do you want to know? What deal are we talking about here? Jack: For starters, tell me who killed Alan Jenkins? Why and where is his body? Baldovino: The boss told me and Bernardo to kill Jenkins. Del Marco doesn’t like us to ask questions.
We just do what we are told. We buried his body in a construction site owned by Del Marco, concrete body I guess you would
say. Jack: So that’s why the police never found his body. What is the name of the construction company? Baldovino: Del Marco & Sons Construction Inc. Bobby: Okay. Now tell us who killed Greg Morgan? Baldovino: The boss has a hired hitman on his payroll. His name is Russell Breaux. He paid the guard a lot
of money to look the other way. He went into Morgan’s cell and killed him but he was smart enough to make it look like
a suicide. But you won’t find him, his nickname is “Ghost” because he does his job and poof. Jack: So far you’ve given us good information. But I want your boss and I know you can deliver him.
Tell me where Alfonso Del Marco is right now? Baldovino: He might be at his mansion in Bobby: Do you know who would want to hurt Emma Duncan? Baldovino: The boss told us to frighten the lady so she wouldn’t talk to the feds. Jack: I see. Do you know who killed Mr. Brinkman? Baldovino: I only work for the boss. But I heard Giuseppe bragging about it. He sent three guys over to pay
off the old man because he was being a nuisance. I guess the old man didn’t take the money. So they killed him. Bobby: Would you mind telling us their names? Baldovino: I heard that Vincent Chambers is dead. Tommy Cortez is in jail. Fernando Botticelli is the trigger
man. Good luck finding him. Jack: Thanks. Here’s your deal. I want a written confession in my hand to back up everything you just
told me. Then I will go to the AUSA and make a deal on your behalf. You get immunity but only if you testify in court against
Alfonso Del Marco. As a matter of fact, I will recommend to the AUSA you get life in prison with a chance of parole in 20
years. That is only if you become a model citizen in prison. (smile) Bobby: In the meantime, we will place you under federal witness protection and give you a whole new life.
(smile) Jack: So do we have a deal? (smile) Baldovino: Yeah. We have a deal. I’ll write down every detail that I know about Alfonso Del Marco operation. Meanwhile, in the other interrogation room, Myles and Dimitrius tried to talk some sense into Bernardo.
But he would not budge against his boss. Bernardo’s testimony is not needed
because Baldovino cut a deal. Since Jack and Bobby got a full confession from Baldovino and his testimony against his former
boss is airtight. Jack calls Marty Parvone to put the wheels in motion and talk about Baldovino’s deal. Marty tells Jack; “We have more than enough evidence to bring charges against Alfonso Del Marco and
his corrupt organization. It’s time to finally throw the book at Del Marco and let him rot in prison for a very long
time”. Jack: You spend
months, sometimes years on some cases, gathering information, putting things in place, and then when you least expect it and
aren’t even looking, things align themselves just right. Boys, it’s time to reel in the big fish, Alfonso Del
Marco, once and for all. (megawatt smile) The FBI team and SWAT shows up at Alfonso Del Marco’s estate. They have a warrant to search
his mansion and arrest him on charges of extortion, securities & investment fraud, stock manipulation, money laundering,
drug trafficking, illegal gambling, racketeering, murder for hire, bribery, witness intimidations, and the list goes on. Jack’s
team finally brought down the infamous Del Marco kingpin syndicate. They dismantle his empire in one fell swoop. It’s
been a very long day for everybody. The team goes home to get some sleep. Now Tara, Emma, and Jenny are back at Emma: Yeah. I know it’s because of you and your friends. But I don’t know where to go from here.
What do I do now? Emma: I would like to stay for a little while. I need to figure some things out. Get a new job and find an
apartment of my own. (smile) Emma: Thanks for everything. I’m tired and I think for the first time in a long time, I can finally
get a decent night sleep. (smile) |
