Chapter 28: A Memorable Night
Jack: It was actually my idea for your parents to come visit
you. I wanted to talk with your father before asking you to marry me tonight. Last
week, your father and I had a long talk in my game room. I asked him for permission for your hand in marriage. And he gave
me his blessing. He was thrilled but I wanted to surprise you so he agreed not to tell you anything. (megawatt smile)
Sue: You’re saying my dad knew and was in on your plan
starting from last week? Oh mi gosh. Did my dad tell my mom about your plan? Does your family know about your plan? (surprised
smile)
Jack: Yes to all of the above. Your dad told your mom and then
she called me the next day to tell me your ring size. I wanted your ring to be a perfect fit for you. Two weeks ago, I called
my parents and told them of my plan to propose to you on Valentine’s Day. My parents couldn’t be more thrilled.
(megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: You are very sneaky. In this case I don’t mind.
But there’s one thing I think you forgot to include tonight. (lighthearted smile and teases Jack)
Jack: What did I forget? Because I planned this out down to
the very last detail to make sure everything would run as expected. (megawatt smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: Well, I mean we don’t have a video camera to capture
the moment when you finally propose to me. I didn’t see a video camera on the dinner cruise. It would have been nice
to watch your proposal again. On second thought, maybe it is better that it was not captured on videotape, because I must
have looked really awful. It was not my best moment, my mascara was running. (lighthearted smile, laughs, and teases Jack)
Jack: First of all, you looked radiant and your smile lit up
the whole room. Second, I had a hidden camera with me the whole time. I got our proposal on tape for you. The tape will be
shown over and over as many times as you wish to see it. You see, I thought of everything before leaving my house. (megawatt
smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: You used a hidden camera? Where and when did you have
time to hide that? And why didn’t you tell me? (curious smile)
Jack: That would have
ruined your surprise. Okay. It’s time to lay all the cards on the table so to speak. I didn’t burn dinner. I went to get the limousine and I saw you the moment you walked in my front door. I wanted to be here with you
when you opened all my gifts but then I thought of a better idea. The hidden cameras that I had installed the other day gave
me quite a show. I hope you’re not mad at me. I have no surprises left for you at least not until next year. (megawatt
smile, laughs, and his signature wink)
Sue: I don’t believe it. No, I’m not
mad at you. How can I be, when the man of my dreams goes to great lengths to surprise me with the most awe-inspiring gift
that any woman can ever receive? Thank you, for loving me the way you do. Thank you for being you. I can not wait to start
our life together, Mr. Hudson. (dazzling smile and laughs)
Jack: Neither can I. Soon-to-be Mrs. Hudson. I’ll
tell you another secret. Suddenly, I’m very tired. It must be because I got up at the crack of dawn. Let’s go
to bed, sweetheart. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: I’m sorry to hear that you are so tired.
I had plans to make this Valentine’s Day special for you but since you are tired we really should go to bed. Tomorrow you can open my Valentine’s Day gifts to you. (lighthearted smile and teases Jack)
Jack: Hmmm…What do you have in mind? (megawatt
smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: I thought you said you were tired. (lighthearted
smile and laughs)
Jack: Eating chocolate covered strawberries must
have done wonders for me. I have renewed energy for whatever you have in mind. (megawatt smile and raise eyebrows)
Sue: Oh, that’s a secret. I can’t tell
you, I’ll have to show you instead. But first, you need to turn off all the hidden cameras in the house right now. (lighthearted
smile and laughs)
Jack: That’s easy. (Hits the remote button)
No more hidden cameras. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: Great. I’ve been waiting all night to
do this. (dazzling smile)
Jack: That makes two of us. You’re incredible.
I’ll never get enough of your love. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Sue: You make me feel beautiful, cherish, and desirable
all at once. I feel the same way about you, Sparky. (lighthearted smile and teases Jack)
Jack: You’re going to pay for calling me
Sparky. (megawatt smile, teases Sue, and raise eyebrows)
Sue: Okay. I can live with my penalty punishment.
How much will it cost me, Sparky? (lighthearted smile, laughs, and teases Jack)
Jack: No more talking. I have something else planned
for you. (megawatt smile and his signature wink)
Just then Jack kissed Sue and she loops her arms around his neck. And when her knees went weak, Jack scooped
her up and placed her onto the bed with the moonlight casting a glow on her face. He took a long time simply gazing into her
eyes before slowly covering her mouth with his own.
The look of awe and wonder in his eyes was something Sue knew she would cherish for years to come. But
it was the reverent way he touched her that made Sue fall in love with him all over again. Then Jack gave her his “I
love you” smile and kissed her passionately.
With two hearts pounding out a rhythm as old as time, Jack carried her over the edge into magic. And they both
fell asleep in each other’s arms.
